We arrived late Monday evening at the Athens airport and managed to figure out the X bus system from the airport to Kifissia, which was a rather confusing taxi ride to our next 5W host’s home, Vivianne and Dimitri. Dimitri is quite an extraordinary architect and we loved the house. As we walked through the Athens suburbs (and later when we were in Athens proper) we observed that the Greeks seem to enjoy a much more relaxed natural setting. Lawns and yards were more like rolling hillside meadows filled with wild flowers and stray brambles, no need for mowers or clippers here. Each day at Viviane’s house we awoke to a clouds of spontaneous pollen storms, which coated everything with a thick yellow dust, luckily neither of us suffers from allergies- this would have killed us!
