Day 14: Visiting the Stockholm Sights!

Transit in Stockholm can take many forms, we rode buses, subways, and ferries to see the sights. We watched as Grandparents pulled their grandchildren on sleds through the snowy streets and mothers pushed their bundled babies in the frigid Nordic air. We found our way down to the Vaca museum which houses an ancient old sea vessel that had spent 333 years buried underwater! Imagine! This was one of those museums that keep its folks constantly aware of why they were there as the giant vessel resides smack dab in the middle of the museum. In 1628, it capsized in the port as it was leaving due to a designer’s faulty creative idea of double gun decks counter balanced by not near enough ballast weight rocks in the boat’s hull. Out it sailed and over it went….deep into the Baltic Sea. This boat was as gaily adorned as anything we had ever seen, amazing artwork depicted important figures and people of the era. What an incredible vessel it must have been! When the ports were opened for battle, giant gnarly lion heads appeared on the little doors that flipped up to reveal the cannons, so I suppose one was Wowed by the scary artwork and then blown away! Ah war….
