Wrapping up our time in Finland

We spent the day wrapping up our Finnish whirlwind tour with Sunday morning muesli (a Finn favorite), yougurt and flatbread (Finns spread butter with a wooden knife), then set out for some cross country skiing.  The Finnish are a private (not altogether "smily") people.  Typically we are used to seeing people hiking/exercising outdoors and aknowledging with a smile or greeting.  We encountered little eye contact and fewer greetings.  Many people were outdoors in the park, but there was very little noise.  We commented on this to our host Liisa who agreed that most Finns are happiest outdoors, but prefer it to be "alone".

Liisa, our brave and bold host swims weekly in the icy Baltic Sea, but today the pump(that provides constant water circulation to prevent ice buildup) had ceased to function.  We were all a little disappointed not to experience this happening.

Our final dinner was of course, reindeer.  Again we apologize to Santa!
