The following day we went back into town, played a quick game of “street chess” in one of the piazzas, then caught the funicular straight up the mountainside to the tiny Medieval town of Monte Bre. After many arguments about which way to walk when we reached the top, we found our way down the hill to Monte Bre. We walked about on the cobblestone streets imagining what life might have been like during Monte Bre’s hayday.
We stopped at a grotto and ate our first truly Italian dish (or almost Italian, as we are just on the border of Italy).
