St Mark's Cathedrall

Unable to find by foot St Mark’s Cathedral the first day, today we decided to take the water taxi through the canals straight to our destination. St Mark’s square was lovely and busy. We were turned away at the entrance of St Mark’s due to Mary’s backpack. At this point the fellowship of the three travelers broke down, and some time apart was required.
To soothe her frustration, Jubie ventured out on her own and chatted up a young storekeeper learning much about modern Venetian life. The storekeeper’s boyfriend was a musician and they were both in their late twenties. The couple had moved to Venice hoping to find a lively arts scene, but rather they found a large retirement community that prefers peace and quiet. After we heard that, we seemed to notice herds of grey-haired elders milling through the aves and chatting in groups at cafes. Apparently, the bars close down quite early and the cafes are the place to be.
