Learning to Cook Balinese Style

We decide to schedule a cooking class with the Villa across the road from us, owned by a french woman. Speaking of French, we feel as if we have joined the annual French holiday in Bali. Most of the tourists we have contact with are French, and do not smile often. This is a marked difference from the ever-smiling Balinese. We believe the Puri Asri staff has embraced our American good humor, appreciation and willingness to smile and blunder through the Indonesian language. We notice they search us out, and our daily flower arrangements (in our room) continue to be more exotic and intricate each day. Back to the cooking class. We learned how to prepare three Balinese dishes (all sampled in the days prior to our lesson). Our new culinary skills include Balinese peanut sauce (or Gado Gado), coconut chicken cooked in a banana leaf (Paso), and sembal metah (Balinese spices, shredded meat/fish and veggies). Here we are with our finished meal!!
